I found this web-site where this group has come up with a better structural design for mid high rise building’s that requires close to half to the steel that current california codes call for, but results in a more stable design when subjected to shear forces. there is actually a video that you can watch that simulates their design in an earthquake. They are claiming and the only damages that have occured have been cosmetic damages. I thought it was pretty cool when I read the article and watched the videos. Follow this link.
