The Dymaxion House

Posted in Uncategorized on September 29, 2008 by Ken
Bucky designed a home (qt movie, 1mb) that was heated and cooled by natural means, that made its own power, was earthquake and storm-proof, and made of permanent, engineered materials that required no periodic painting, reroofing, or other maintenance. You could easily change the floor plan as required – squeezing the bedrooms to make the living room bigger for a party, for instance. (see article at the link below)

Alternative Construction…

Posted in Uncategorized on September 28, 2008 by Ken

Alternative Construction methods. Alternative lifestyles and behavior can be influenced by one’s willingness to give back to the earth via environmentalism, or just to save a buck and fight the idealism of a capitalist society.
Such lifestyle decisions fuel the green movement and the market of everything from hybrid cars to self composting toilets. One way to save thousands of dollars and to live without the guilt of Gaia is to construct a house using alternative materials besides precious wood, polluting vinyls and foam insulation.
Some of these alternative housing methods are extremely useful to the earth, as everyday trash can be used to build an entire house, or a natural material can be used, and then recycled when the house is ready to be torn down….

I have seen houses built out of old tires, milk crates, straw, mund, and even dug right into the side of a hill. The Hobbits were not far from haveing perfect homes when it came to eco-friendly.——————–

I think I should start a blog about Hobit construction, like it is a real form of construction and middle earth is in peril of global warming.

www.qualifiedremodeler.com – Renoworks

Posted in Uncategorized on September 20, 2008 by Ken

http://www.qualifiedremodeler.com. This entry started out as new web page presented to  me in class the other night. There was a great article at www.qualifiedremodeler.com about energy efficiency: The Green Catalyst by John D. Wagner. It was a great article. After checking out the web page I found an article on RenoWorks, a leading supplier of visualization software and solutions for contractors and home improvement experts, to steal the opening line. I promptly set a web site for the firm I consult for. www.revisionpro.com/ecs you can also check the company web page at www.revisionpro.com.

Spinach House

Posted in Uncategorized on September 16, 2008 by Ken

The winning entry to the Cradle to Cradle C2C Home Competition is an incredible single family dwelling by Matthew Coates and Tim Meldrum that goes right to the core fundamentals of the Cradle to Cradle principles. Not only does the building run a photosynthetic and phototropic skin made with spinach protein, but it also produces more energy than a single family’s needs, allowing the excess to be distributed to neighbors. This radical shift, from centralized energy systems today, fosters community interdependence as neighbors benefit from the resources of others.

Soap Bubble Structure

Posted in Uncategorized on September 10, 2008 by Ken

Lucio Blandini calls it “a soap bubble just floating over the ground. The frameless glass structure, designed at the University of Stuttgart’s Institute of Lightweight Structures, consists of laminated glass panels elevated off the ground with titanium supports, which expand at the same rate as glass.
